Saw it on Thursday. I cannot say I'm dissapointed, it is a good story although I personally think it does not have the spirit of episodes IV, V, VI. Still good entertainment. And why the hell they introduced those small birds? The only reason I see is selling them as merchandise.

The spirit of the original episodes is impossible to capture because they were making something new, so good luck getting that from Disney and the entertainment movie industry nowadays ;)

I love the original trilogy, I hate the prequels and I'm a bit underwhelmed about the recent films. They're good action & adventure films, but I find them predictable and forgettable. Knowing that they will keep producing one film every year until the franchise dies kind of ruins any potential curiosity/excitement I might feel about this year's one or the ones to come. Not even the most inspired and imaginative directors/writers could produce one good movie every few years in a sustained way, and now corporations will give us one per year; the results are guaranteed to be more of the same.

Can we lock this thread so that David doesn't get distracted? There's an update pending, ya'know. :)

I have a few thoughts on this subject, but I personally feel the Developer should be locked in a cage with Adaon until the next few updates are out and polished. But, I'm told I'm a bit of an orc-task master when it comes to things.

The first set of Star Wars films had a lot of room for improvement, same with Lord of the Rings. What makes them, and other trailblazing works, great isn't that they were polished, but that they brought something new and special to the medium. Other authors can follow their lead and make more polished, more refined, and maybe even better written stuff, but they never capture the same gritty, awesomeness of the first.

Of course the generation gap plays a role. For those new to the genre, THIS star wars is their first experience and the first trilogy will seem a more incomplete cliche. Odd to think what was the original can be described as the cliche after enough time.

The ranting of old men have long deemed their youth saw the first and last of what was great about the world.

It was kind of underwhelming for me, sadly. I think JJ Abrams didn't direct this one for a reason. The story was kind of a mess.

Yeah, I agree.
For me the new trilogy is less worthy than the clunky prequels..

SW7 is an useless sequel\remake with crap characters.
SW8 tries to add something new.. but fails miserably with more bad characters and nonsensical events.
The only good things about the new movies are the visuals.

Rogue One, luckly, was ok, but still with various problems and a slow first half (but the last part, wow).

Well to be honest a starwars movie stays a starwars movie... beside this you can't expect the same quality movie from the 1990's with the same crew but then 30 to 40 years older..... that would me a grandpa vs grandpa hoverwheelchair battle.... so there is a moment that you need to chance crew ( especially wen you wait to long to make the rest of the books.....) he should done it right away with the same crew but he desided not to do so... here is the result and without hansolo its crap anyway

Therefore the new generation starwars fans i don't hear complaine about the new movies...

Beside the fact that starwars is a nazi vs resist based style of serie movies that i think that is ready for a compleet new remake .... atleast the 4.5.6 so that 1.2.3 and 7.8.9 are equal in grapics and animation.. and upgraded to 2.0 because using scale models is in this time for low budget bollywood movies...

Ill upload photo's soon from the starwars expedition here in the Nederlands.... with the original costumes and used scale models of spacecrafts. It looks cool but not from 2018.....

Beside all of this i still like it..... because its never gonna happen anyway...

And to give a example of remakes... the startrek series is what i think because of the cgi and graphic way better then the original series with stuward ( i liked his bold head and voice ) but other crew.... other graphics.... and that makes the movie totally differend then the original series.

Well starwars is having the same problem and effects of old vs new....
