Question for Dave: using or licensing the game engine

Hey Dave, I love Exiled Kingdoms and after playing I was inspired to create my own rpg!

I am in the early stages of making it, and my dream is to publish the game on IOS and android

I know you used art and characters from mainly the flare rpg project, and other open source places. I would just make my game in the flare engine but flare doesn't allow publishing to IOS/android and there are things that your engine does better such as lighting, and party members.

My game I plan on using the open source sprites from flare, but making environments in the tiled map editor using almost all different tile sets so it would have a very distinct visual look.

I was wondering if you would consider licensing your engine or letting me use it. I read on another forum that everything in your game can be edited by text and map files... Same as flare. I do not know how to code so this would be perfect for me

Thank you and I can't wait to hear your responses
Ben

Licensing questions are typically prohibited on the forum under:
Forum Rule #3) Some topics are off-limits. Don't discuss any of this, even to admonish the user that starts it: Exiled Kingdoms licensing policy

Locking thread. A business discussion seems well beyond the scope of this forum.

But given the unique nature of the question, this is something the Developer will have to review. He, at his discretion, can respond either through a public post or a direct message to the forum user. Or not at all.

I believe this question is within the rules, as it deals with the game engine license and not about the game itself, so I'll unlock the topic.

First of all I am very glad to hear more people is inspired to create their own games. It is the very spirit of RPGs since the old D&D tabletop game days, in which we all could create adventures for our friends. Much better than a "market" with a few producers and a mass of consumers, if you ask me. I wish you the best of lucks, and whatever engine/system you end up using, feel free to ask any questions in the Feedback subforum and I'll try to help.

On the subject: at this point, EK engine is mostly independent from the game content so it *could* be used with different game files to play a different "module". But it is not 100% ready to be used by a third-party creator. It lacks documentation (essential), and a few things here and there are hard-coded, or work in ways that only make sense in my mind, and would bring insanity to any mortal daring to meddle with it :D

In other words, the engine is currently highly re-usable, but only for me, anyone else would have a hard time; Flare was always developed as a collaborative project meant to be used by many people, while EK was not. That 1% of work required to make it work with "external modules" easily amounts to weeks of work that currently I can't afford. And the lack of documentation would imply I'd have to provide training/counseling, which I can't do now even with a commercial and paid offer.

I might at some point clean up and wrap the engine to be used by other people, it is something that I'd enjoy to do actually. But right now development takes precedence, though, and in the foreseable future it'll stay like that, I am afraid.

tl;dr -> wait until the game is fully finished, so there's some healthy production for every RPG developer (esp. David and Ben)

8 years after I've come with the same question, I do love RPGs and is something that really changed my life in highschool, 'cause I was just some recluse nerd, but with this new wonderful thing I made a lot of friends.
I was just thinking if David has finally come with the liberation of his engine. Actually, some of my Role-Play mates are programmers and they are interesteds in making a game with me.
