Random Encounters

From Exiled Kingdoms Wiki
(Redirected from Rumor Bosses)

This page catalogues the various random encounters found throughout the Isle of Varannar.

RARITY

For both common Random Encounters and Rumor Bosses, not all encounters are equally likely. Events are either Rare, Uncommon, or Common, with different probabilities to spawn an event.

  • Common 65%
  • Uncommon 29%
  • Rare 5%

Note these figures add to 99% leaving a very rare chance of nothing being selected.

Also note the Rare event is currently used only once, to give the otherwise Uncommon Green Dragon and additional chance of being spawned, making it slightly less Uncommon.

RANDOM ENCOUNTERS

Locations

The most common type of random encounters are on-the-road with spawn points throughout Varsilia or adjacent to it, with most spawn points being near roads between towns. These are the encounters such as bandits, mercenaries, merchants, interesting NPCs and sometimes violent humanoids. The areas with random encounter spawn points, along with location and probability in the map section, are:

Two important ones are Kingsbridge (one spawn point) and Nivar Wetlands (two spawn points) because these points are 100%, so travel can be used to help guarantee random encounters. On other maps the probability averages around 35%.

Note that all Random Encounters are Common unless otherwise stated.

RUMOR BOSSES

Rumor Bosses are more dangerous and more rewarding beasts and humanoids, basically random mini-bosses, typically found off the main roads, or in dungeons. As they are not always easy to find just walking between locations, the use of Gossip to locate them is recommended.

Rumor Bosses start spawning once your character has reached a certain Level and have a rarity, the level requirement is indicated in parentheses in the list below, the rarity is assumed Common unless otherwise stated.

On average it seems 1 to 3 rumor boss can spawn per hour of gameplay.

Rumor Boss Types

★ the Manticore (Rumor Boss) and Skeletal Warlord are Uncommon at Levels 11-13, and Common from Levels 14 onwards.

Gossip

Buying drinks at taverns gives you a chance to learn about any boss rumors, based on your Gossip skill (or your Companion's Gossip Skill, if higher). The first successful roll will tell you the type of monster and the time remaining to find it. Each successful roll after that will give increasingly more precise detail about its location.

  1. First rumor : general region, e.g. Northern Varsilia, Eastern Mercia, Wildlands.
  2. Second rumor : area map, e.g. Northwest Sagar Forest, Thyr Ridges etc.
  3. Third rumor : location in the map, e.g. southwest corner by the hills, -or- a dungeon of the map e.g. In Groz Lair
  4. Fourth rumor : location inside the dungeon (if applicable), e.g. In Groz Lair, to the northwest.

By the time you get the second or third rumor you can use the EK wiki to check the map and hunt the various Rumor Boss locations. Note that Rumor Bosses can spawn behind secret doors, and will appear even if you don't know about them. That can lead to some surprises as you stumble across them unexpectedly.

The game has several types of Rumors that gossip can reveal; in addition to bosses, there are rumors about town hall quests, drinkers talk about player quests both started and complete, plus there is general chit-chat that merely offers background information of the world. This can be frustrating if you're focusing on hunting a boss, or tracking down a town hall quest, but you can visit lots of inns in lots of towns and buy lots of rounds of drinks. Hic!
