Spirit
Description
Spirit is a type of elemental Resistance your character can have, damage of a holy or ethereal nature, or perhaps the "moral fortitude" to resist being stunned or paralyzed. No enemies deal spirit damage directly, however. So for you, the character, the main ways you interface with Spirit is by dealing it with certain weapons (listed below), and Spirit resistance affecting Paralysis and Stun chance, and their duration. Note that monsters with Spirit resistance have both effects: they reduce any Spirit damage you deal to them, as well as reduce the chances of getting Stunned or Paralyzed.
There are a few points in the game where dealing Spirit damage is particularly helpful, for example The Ancient Seal and the rest of the Forbidden Pit, due to Shadows being particularly weak to it. Nearly all of The Undead resist it not at all, or at most mildly, making it a very useful attribute for a primary/default weapon in the mid-game. It's almost never a bad choice for a weapon, even if sometimes a certain weakness will make other elements a better choice.
There are also a few points in the game where enemies will have stun and, worse, paralysis abilities. For those, having some resistance to Spirit is essential, for example in Askatir Mine for the quest ... and the Abyss Gazed Back, and throughout The Sewer of Horrors, but also for various bosses including most Liches, The Undermother, and Brimard the Bard inside the Mercian Royal Crypt. When an area in this Wiki has "Elemental Dangers" listing Spirit as a danger, it means that enemies found there can stun (one icon) or paralyze (two icons).
The only enemies in the game who strongly resist Spirit (basically cannot be stunned ever) are the final boss the Dimensional Parasite, Valeran if you choose to fight him at the Dragon Coast, and Stridsibum if you attack him instead of doing The Primal Forge. Earth Elementals and Golems do resist at a 65-70 clip, however, while Lady Xidar and the Flame Prophet resist at 80 and The Undermother at 90, while being weaker to other things. Likewise, Worms (Carrion Eaters and Devourers]] have an 80 resist rating (65%), while also being weak to Shock. So for them only, a Spirit weapon might indeed be a bad choice. But for all other enemies, 95%+ of them in the game, it's generally no worse than a neutral choice for dealing damage.
See Stun & Paralysis Resistances for detail on how that effect operates in-game.

Enemies Vulnerable
This shows all monsters who are especially vulnerable to Spirit damage, both Common (recurring) monsters and Unique ones (mostly bosses). A great many more monsters than are listed here are relatively vulnerable to Spirit damage, i.e. they resist it less than other elements (or not at all), particularly most of The Undead, so pay attention to that when equipping yourself for different areas if Spirit is one of your offensive options.
