Toxic

Description

Toxic (aka Poison) damage is one of the six elemental damage types in Exiled Kingdoms. It is dealt very frequently by enemies (probably second-most-often after Death damage), making acquiring some resistance equipment essential to survival at many points. The quest reward from Thick Skin, and the Jungle Boots from Kalis (via the quest Exotic Substances), plus items like Nivarian Cloak, Ring of Health, and Blessed Necklace (the latter purchasable for 800gp in Rhöneis, will all become regular rotations for you, even from the early game. Aside from enemies, it is also a frequent Environmental hazard, in the form of trapped rooms that will hit you with poison gas until you escape or turn it off.

Toxic damage is often resisted very strongly by enemies, especially the Undead (resistance to Death and Toxic are often paired), and by those who deal Toxic damage themselves. Pretty much only two kinds of enemies are vulnerable to it: Earth Elementals and Mirmeks. Rarely, some enemies will be resistant to everything else, but be neutral with respect to Toxic damage (most notably The Undermother, but also the senior Apes in Kurgua Cave, as well as Trolls); for those cases, it's useful to keep something like Despair or the Troll Cleaver in a chest to pull out for a special occasion. But generally, Toxic weapons will not be a frequent part of your arsenal.
