Overview

Weapons, armor, and tools in Exiled Kingdoms are forged from a myriad of materials. Ranging from basic wooden and iron weapons to outlandish elemental gear, items come in all forms. What an item is crafted from is usually based on a few key points: its intended purpose, the region it comes from, who forged it, and who it is intended to be used by. The most common materials that items are forged from are: Wood, Leather, Iron, Steel, Bluesteel, and the elemental items. Elemental items are forged from common materials and then imbued with magic, giving them special features such as Fire, Ice, Poison, Holy, etc. Elemental items vary enough in base material and features that they are all grouped into the Elemental category, even the ancient Tolassian libraries cannot contain information on every elemental item discovered in the kingdoms.

Wood

As old as time. Wood has been used to craft weapons, armor, and tools since the dawn of man. Wood is easily formed, and can be used to craft just about anything. It is relatively light and fairly durable at best. Wood is no match for metals when it comes to weapon and armor crafting and is usually cheaper to purchase. The most common use for wood in the modern kingdoms is creating the various economy weapons, bucklers, and certain items.

Leather

Since the early times, man has used animal hides and fur to craft clothing. Man has had many centuries to perfect the art of leatherwork. The durability of tanned hides was noted quickly and taken full advantage of. Leather is light, relatively durable, and can be fashioned into any form of clothing. Leather can also be hardened specifically for use in armor. Hardened leather armor is almost as flexible and much stronger than regular leather. While it is used in creating almost all items, the most common uses for leather in the modern kingdoms is creating the various regular and hardened leather armor for would-be rogues, spirited rangers, and the spendthrift adventurer.

Iron

Deep underground in fiery magma pits, iron ore was born. Over the course of time, it was pushed to the surface where it was soon discovered. The ancient peoples took notice to a peculiar red rock that could be found almost anywhere. Through trial and error, they learned it could be heated and forged into much stronger items than anything they had seen before. Iron's medium durability and slight heft, lent to its ability to be formed into excellent weapons and armor. It soon became popular throughout the kingdoms and was forged into many type of items. The most common use for iron in the modern kingdoms is creating the magnitude of weapons, armors, and items used by the common folk.

Steel

As man learned of iron's properties, they also learned it could be refined. Through refinement, iron was turned into steel. Steel proved to be much more durable and offer more properties than iron, at no expense of added weight. Steel can create sharper weapons, more durable armor, and tougher tools. Steel quickly found popularity with the higher classes in the kingdoms. The process to refine iron adds great cost to steel. The most common use for steel in the modern kingdoms is creating higher quality weapons, armor, and tools for the adventurer with a heavy coin purse.

Bluesteel

Light, durable, and mysterious. Bluesteel is a unique metal found only in Varsilia, specifically Lannegar Mine. Bluesteel is an extremely light metal and overwhelmingly durable. It is unsurpassed by any other metal used to craft weapons and armor in the kingdoms. Bluesteel weapons are uniquely sharp and never lose their edge. Bluesteel armor is characteristically light like leather, but many times more strong. The lightness of bluesteel allow anyone, big and small, to wield items crafted from it with great ease. The people of Lannegar take great pride in their bluesteel ore and it is priced accordingly. The most common uses for bluesteel in the modern kingdoms is crafting the highest quality weapons, armor, and tools for adventurers with the deepest pockets.

Elemental Items

Elemental weapons, armor, and tools can be found all over the kingdoms. Elemental items usually start their life as something ordinary and then are transformed into the extraordinary. With the right wizard and the right spell, anything can be imbued with elemental powers. Elemental items are unique in that they lose all of their previous negative properties while taking on positive elemental properties. Cloth can be made hard as steel, daggers can spit flames, steel can be fluid as water. The possibilities for elemental weapons are endless. Most notably, elemental weapons cause some form of special damage and elemental armor adds some form of special attribute. The most common uses for Elemental Items in the kingdoms are the specific purposes they were intended for by the original user(s) or for causing mayhem by the fortunate soul to come across such powerful item(s).
