Guild Leaders

Guild Leaders are those who can induct characters into a guild by taking the Loyalty Oath.

Skill Trainers

Skill Trainers are NPCs who teach the character new Advanced Skills, generally for 5,000 GP each, and often subject to Class and/or Trait requirements, and sometimes Reputation requirements as well. Once you have learned a skill, you can invest skill points into actually enabling its abilities. Characters are limited to knowing a maximum of 8 advanced skills, so choose wisely.

Skill & Trait Resetters

A few NPCs can "reset" the Traits and/or Skills of the character or your companion, refunding the points spent on either one, and giving you the chance to re-allocate all of the points you have earned.

Transportation

These NPCs will take you safely from one city to another, saving you the walk and hazards, generally for a small amount of gold, and taking some elapsed period of in-game time to do so (aside from the wizard teleportation, which is instant).

Merchants

Merchants will buy and sell items. Some will buy anything, others will only buy weapons, armor, consumable items, or some combination thereof. Most have a fixed set of items they sell, although the Travelling Armorer and Travelling Alchemist have a long list, and will offer only a selection from that list, which differs each time you (randomly) encounter them.

Quests

These folks need help, and will give you a quest (And probably its rewards at the end), or have valuable information and will advance the plot of a quest you're already pursuing.

Notes

  • Some NPCs appear more than once as they have more than one role, e.g. the Wizard Couk can transport players via his teleporter, is a merchant of magical items, and has quests associated with him.
